Tamdown Group Invests in UK’s First Thwaites 9-tonne ROPS+ Dumpers

Tamdown Group has become the first company in the UK to take delivery of Thwaites’ new 9-tonne ROPS+ dumpers, supplied by Ernest Doe & Sons. The landmark order brings together Tamdown’s commitment to operator safety, Thwaites’ advanced safety technology, and the trusted sales, service and support that has underpinned Ernest Doe’s partnership with Tamdown for almost 30 years.

A New Standard in Site Safety

Tamdown’s latest order comprises ten Thwaites 9-tonne ROPS+ dumpers, with six machines delivered initially and the remaining four due to follow shortly.

The decision to invest in the new ROPS+ machines was driven by one key factor: operator safety.

Designed to help keep operators securely seated within the protective zone during a rollover incident, the ROPS+ system addresses one of the greatest risks associated with dumper accidents. Human instinct can often be to try and jump clear of the machine, but by encouraging operators to remain securely seated and restrained within the protective zone, the system provides an important additional layer of protection.

The system incorporates Thwaites’ Triple Lock safety technology, which ensures the machine can only be operated when the operator is correctly seated, wearing the seatbelt and the overhead Halo bar is fully engaged.

Safety First

For Tamdown, investing in the safest equipment available is a natural extension of the company’s wider commitment to health and safety.

Mark Cain, Plant & Procurement Director at Tamdown Group, explained that the business places behavioural safety at the heart of its operations, investing heavily in training and continually reviewing how technology can further protect its workforce.

Having evaluated the new Thwaites ROPS+ machines, Tamdown believes the system sets a new standard for dumper safety and has already shared its experience with the wider construction industry through demonstrations to the National House Builders and a Plant Safety Forum.

Mark commented:

“Health and safety is absolutely paramount within our business. Our priority is making sure our people get home safely at the end of every day. We believe the Thwaites ROPS+ system is the most robust safety solution currently available and, as we continue to renew our fleet, this will become our safety system of choice.”

Built on a Trusted Partnership

The latest order builds upon a relationship between Ernest Doe and Tamdown spanning almost 30 years, during which Ernest Doe has supplied a wide range of construction equipment to support Tamdown’s projects across the South-East.

Chris Bunn, Construction Group Sales Manager at Ernest Doe, said:

“It’s great to see Tamdown become the first company in the UK to take delivery of these new Thwaites 9-tonne ROPS+ dumpers. Their commitment to operator safety makes these machines a natural fit for the business, and we’re proud to continue supporting them as their trusted Thwaites dealer.”

Paul Rodwell, Distributor Manager at Thwaites, added:

“The introduction of Thwaites ROPS+ marks another significant step forward in dumper safety. We’re delighted that Tamdown has become the first customer in the UK to adopt the new 9-tonne model, and we’re grateful to Ernest Doe for their continued support in helping customers embrace the latest advances in operator safety.”

As Tamdown continues to renew its fleet, the business intends to replace more of its existing dumpers with ROPS+ machines over time, underlining its long-term commitment to protecting operators and continually investing in the highest standards of site safety.
