At the end of March we bid an extremely fond farewell to two of our longest serving parts men, Chris Porter, who retired from our Braintree branch after 49.5 years service and Steve Entwistle, who completed his career at Ulting, after 46 years 10 months. Both men completed their parts apprenticeships at Plumpton College and have dedicated all their working lives to Ernest Doe & Sons Ltd, each receiving a gold watch at their 25 years service ceremony.
Chris Porter was presented with his retirement gifts by our General Parts Manager, Andy Bloomfield, and our Managing Director, Angus Doe, visited the branch to thank Chris for his loyal service and wish him a happy and healthy retirement.
At a small socially distanced gathering in the board room, Steve was presented with gifts from his friends at work, as well as a gift from the company, to thank him for his service and loyalty since joining the company as an apprentice back in May 1974.
Steve initially worked on the Ulting parts counter then became the bulk stores manager before becoming the showroom supervisor. Latterly Steve has worked on the workshop counter. Steve reflected that, over the years, he had trained our current Chairman Colin, Managing Director Angus and General Parts Manager Andy, teaching them everything they now know about parts and contributing to their subsequent successes and progression! He then regaled the gathered friends and colleagues with stories and anecdotes of his time with the company, much to the entertainment of all present.
Both men will be fondly remembered and, on behalf of your friends, colleagues, senior management team and Doe family, we wish you a long, happy and healthy retirement.
