Specialist Vegetable Technical Sales & Demonstration Manager

Working in a small but focused team, you will play a key role in delivering technical support to the existing sales and service team, whilst also managing and maintaining a portfolio of direct customer sales of your own.

Essential Skills/Experience:

  • Previous sales or technical experience within the agricultural trade is desirable
  • A good mechanical understanding of agricultural machinery, preferably focused on vegetable equipment
  • To have a hands-on approach and be able to demonstrate machinery in field to best effect.
  • Target driven and ability to ‘close’
  • An excellent self starter and motivated by sales
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to deal diplomatically with customers during busy periods both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to produce accurate quotations both digitally and hand written where required
  • Excellent numeric skills as dealing with retail, cost, profit and margins
  • Proactive and methodical in approach to problem solving
  • Ability to communicate effectively to all levels of the business
  • Act with discretion when dealing with matters of a confidential nature
  • Ability to manage customer expectations without over committing

    Role Purpose:

     

    We are seeking an ambitious and technically skilled Specialist Vegetable Technical Sales Manager to join a small but high-performing specialist vegetable machinery import team at our Sutterton branch. You will play a critical role in delivering expert sales and technical support for our cutting-edge vegetable machinery, combining hands-on field knowledge with the latest advancements in Agri-tech and precision farming across the Uk & Ireland.

     

    In this role, you will manage and grow a portfolio of direct customer accounts, provide in-depth product demonstrations, and drive revenue by promoting intelligent, productivity-enhancing solutions to professional vegetable growers.

     

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Promote and sell a specialist range of vegetable farming machinery and technology, including automated harvesters, precision planters, and data-driven cultivation equipment.
    • Demonstrate machinery performance in-field and consult customers on the integration of advanced systems such as GPS guidance, variable rate technology (VRT), and telematics.
    • Provide technical guidance and after-sales support to customers and the wider sales team.
    • Prepare accurate and compelling sales quotations, proposals, and ROI-based presentations.
    • Build and maintain long-term customer relationships based on trust, knowledge, and support.
    • Monitor industry trends and identify new opportunities to integrate innovative Agri-tech solutions.
    • Attend shows, demonstrations, and manufacturer training events to stay ahead of market developments.
    • Support service teams with diagnostic feedback and real-world operational insights.
    • Collaborate with suppliers and internal stakeholders to ensure customer satisfaction and product performance.
    • Regular travel throughout the UK and Ireland will be required to support customers, with occasional international travel to visit manufacturers as necessary.

    Essential Skills & Experience:

    • Proven experience in agricultural machinery sales or technical product support, ideally in the vegetable crop sector.
    • Strong mechanical and operational knowledge of vegetable-specific equipment, including planters, harvesters, and bed formers.
    • Familiarity with modern precision farming technologies such as ISOBUS controls, yield mapping, and remote diagnostics.
    • Confident conducting live equipment demonstrations and on-farm consultations.
    • Strong commercial acumen and ability to convert enquiries into closed sales.
    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.
    • High attention to detail in preparing quotes, managing margins, and negotiating deals.
    • Self-starter attitude with excellent time management and organisational skills.
    • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, customer-focused environment.

Additional Information

  • Start Date:
    Immediate, subject to candidates availability
  • Hours:
    42.5hrs per week – 8am to 5.30pm Monday to Friday (1hr unpaid lunch).  Additional hours as required which may include weekends as per rota especially during peak periods e.g Harvest
  • Salary:
    £Depending on Experience, plus commission, plus company car
