Health & Safety Manager

We are currently looking for an experienced Health & Safety Manager to join the team at our Head Office, based in Maldon, Essex. The successful applicant will be required to support 20 operational business locations.

Role Purpose:

Reporting directly to the Chairman, you will have a hands-on approach and be responsible for maintaining, administrating and reviewing the company’s Health & Safety Policies, arrangements and risk assessments, ensuring procedures adhere to current legislation. The company uses AW Safety Ltd’s suite of documentation. You will actively promote best practice for health and safety across the company.

Required Skills/Experience:

  • Ability to build strong and collaborative relationships with people across all areas of the business.
  • Inclusive approach to engage with people and help drive our health and safety systems forward.
  • Practice safe working techniques and re-enforce the safety policies, guidelines, and procedures as set out by the Company.
  • Coordinate and manage the organisation’s emergency arrangements including fire and first aid to ensure effective control and compliance.
  • Develop and deliver training with Toolbox Talks to encourage a positive culture and attitude towards Health and Safety.
  • Provide daily guidance and direction in Safety, Health and Environmental programs at the employee / supervisor level to ensure a common and effective approach.
  • Carry out 3 H&S inspections and 1 full audit of all locations per annum.
  • Investigate and follow up accidents, ensuring that authorities are notified when required and HR of potential misconduct issues or repeat incidents.
  • Develop and deliver training to encourage a positive culture and attitude towards Health and Safety.
  • Be resilient, pragmatic and confident in decision making.
  • Able to identify and make recommendations for business improvements.
  • Take ownership for continued professional development and changes in regulations.

Essential Skills/Experience/Requirements:

  • Diploma Level H&S qualification is desired.
  • Knowledge of the Agricultural industry would be advantageous.
  • Experience of driving a positive Health and Safety culture within complex organisations.
  • Competent IT skills including Word, Excel and Web applications.
  • Excellent written and verbal skills.
  • Team player and able to build and maintain relationships both internal and external.
  • Full driving licence.
