‘Ziggurat’ – UK Tour 2021
At the end of September our very own Chairman, Colin Doe, joined a group of 60 riders from the construction industry for a four-day cycling challenge ‘Ziggurat’. Originally planned as a ride in Reims, France in 2020, the delayed event was switched to the UK instead to avoid further postponement in 2021, to raise much needed funds and awareness of Action Medical Research.
Starting in Dorking at the Denbies Wine Estate, the riders cycled over 320 miles, going up Box Hill and Ditchling Beacon, raising over £140,000 in the process, cycling 80 miles and climbing 5,000 feet per day.
Colin was very proud to be one of the cyclists on this gruelling ride and particularly pleased to host one of the feed stops enroute at the company’s Ringmer branch. Whilst there, one of the participants Nicola Rees from Datum Contracts & Construction Management Ltd was delighted to have a ride in a CASE IH Maxxum 150 with Ernest Doe Power Ringmer’s Branch and Sales Manager, David Bush.
Special thanks must go to Bomag GB Ltd and Hyundai Construction Equipment Europe for their generous sponsorship pledged to Colin for this worthy cause. Founded in 1952, Action Medical Research was originally set up with the aim of eradicating polio. However, since then, AMR has helped to beat polio, fight meningitis, prevent stillbirths and develop ultrasound scanning in pregnancy, helping to save thousands of children’s lives and change many more. The charity is currently funding research into areas including premature birth, epilepsy, scarlet fever, cerebral palsy, brain cancer and some rare and distressing conditions.
