THANK YOU FOR HELPING US MAKE OUR DIAMOND ANNIVERSARY EVENT SUCH A GREAT SUCCESS!
Founded in 1898, Ernest Doe has been serving customers for the last 122 years. However, 2020 marks the Doe Show Diamond Anniversary, 60 years since the very first DOE SHOW, and we have just spent three days enjoying our BEST SHOW EVER!
The very first Doe Show was held at our Braintree branch in 1960. The main feature was Grain Handling and Storage equipment and it proved to be a great success. After a couple of years, we moved the show to our headquarters at Ulting so that we could make full use of our farmland surrounding the site, demonstrating the machinery in action on the land.
Over the past 60 years the show has grown in size and reputation, becoming a firm fixture in the diaries of farmers, groundsmen, construction workers, greenkeepers, arborists, tractor enthusiasts and the local community alike, appealing to visitors of all ages. More than 10,000 people descended on Ulting this February for the 60th Doe Show at Ernest Doe’s headquarters near Maldon, Essex.
The 2020 event was the first Doe Show to be presided over by new managing director Angus Doe, who took over the role from his father Colin at the beginning of January. Angus took the opportunity to engage with customers and suppliers throughout the three days reporting that it was an extremely well attended event and feedback from both customers and suppliers had been very positive.
The weather was extremely kind and visitors enjoyed what must have been the longest run of dry weather we have had since last Autumn!
We were delighted to be presented with an award to celebrate the 60th Doe Show and commemorate 60 years partnership with Lemken on our opening day. Here is Colin and Angus Doe receiving the specially commissioned award.
We were also thrilled to be announced as Dal-Bo’s European Dealer of the Year on the opening day of our 60th Show. Pictured are Dalbo’s Group Sales Manager, Torben Pedersen, presenting Managing Director Angus Doe with the award, together with Ed Perry, Doe Power General Manager and Thomas Atkins from DALBO UK.
Ernest Doe & Sons are always looking to drive the business forward, offering new and innovative technology and machinery for customers and this year was no exception with the introduction of a new feature ‘The Tech and Innovation Centre’. Cutting edge technology was on display and there was even the opportunity to try out a virtual reality Stihl chainsaw and an F1 simulator!
The ‘Mangled Worzels’ played live in the Case IH Marquee which showcased all the latest machinery available on the market including the first UK showing of the new Magnum AFS Connect range and Large Baler.
In the New Holland Marquee there was a unique Diamond White tractor, specially commissioned for the 60th Show, which was snapped up by a buyer within an hour of the show opening.

As well as celebrating all the latest tractors on the market, the show gave a nostalgic nod back to the past 60 years, with a large vintage display which was expertly curated by retired employee, Paul Wylie, with the support of a number of local owners and enthusiasts.
Throughout the show there were some fantastic ‘Doe Diamond Deals’ as well as a number of free prize draws and competitions. The draw to win a free Stihl cordless chainsaw was won by Phillip Lovegrove from Mown Lawns in Mayland, Essex. 5 year old Ben Scurlock from Chelmsford won the colouring competition and chose a toy tractor from the store as his prize.

The construction zone was as popular as ever with heavy duty Hyundai Excavators and Thwaites dumpers being demonstrated throughout the show and on the adjacent fields, visitors got to watch tractors and implements, close up, as they worked the land.
We were honoured to have a visit from Mr Sungwoo Lee Managing Director and Nicolas Rousseau Sales and Marketing Director of Hyundai Construction Equipment Europe along with UK Business Director Tony Reeves last week. Angus and Colin Doe were presented with an award to celebrate 60 Doe Shows which will sit nicely on the boardroom mantelpiece.
Thank you to everyone who worked so hard and contributed to the success of the 60th Diamond Doe Show and thank you to all our friends, customers and suppliers for your enduring support, year after year – here’s to the next 60 shows.
