Ernest Doe Farm – August 2019
The Ernest Doe farm finished harvest Tuesday evening 6th August, using a new New Holland CR8.80 combine harvester, equipped with full RTX.
Farm Manager Alan Willett commented that “it just didn’t miss a beat”. This year the combine had the latest New Holland full suspension tracs, and Alan remarked that he was particularly impressed with the smoothness and stability of the ride.
Like many other farms, yields this year have been very good. The best performance came from Sunningdale, the hybrid winter barley.
Wheat was nearly as good, but we unfortunately saw some on the lighter land die off before the rain came to save it.
Harvest 2019 is the first year that we have replaced our traditional 2nd wheat (Crusoe) with the Zyatt variety. A decision which we are pleased to note has paid off.
Oilseed rape yields were slightly better than average, but nothing to write home about.
