Working at Ernest Doe

The company is a family-owned business which was established in 1898 – 2023 marks the company’s 125th anniversary. It employs more than 540 staff operating from 19 locations and has become the UK’s largest agricultural, construction and groundcare machinery dealership.

Ernest Doe & Sons Limited has a policy of maintaining planned steady growth. This has established a reliable source of products and product support for its customers as well as developing a stable employment environment for its staff.

Upon completion of the apprenticeship scheme, all employees are reviewed and have the opportunity to become a fully qualified technician or parts adviser within the company, increasing their career development opportunities to progress to either service or parts management, company demonstrators, technical sales or branch management. 80% of the Senior Management Team started with the company as apprentices.

Apprentice Success stories

I joined the business in 1977 as a parts apprentice and have worked as a parts van salesman and an agricultural area sales manager before being promoted to Branch Manager in 1999. I got my gold watch in 2002 and in 2017 I celebrated my 40th anniversary at Ernest Doe!

Tim Lawrence, Branch Manager – Rochford

I joined the business in 2004 as a service apprentice and have worked as a service technician, trainee service manager, service manager and agricultural sales manager. I was promoted to Branch Manager in 2021 and currently manage Ernest Doe Littleport.

Writtle College Partnership

Apprentices will be mainly based at an Ernest Doe or Ernest Doe Power branch but will attend 3 x 3 week blocks per year at Writtle University College. During this time the training will be split between campus and the CNH Training Centre in Basildon. This is a fantastic learning experience, with training from specialist staff who will ensure that the apprentices gain the technical knowledge required for a successful career in modern agricultural engineering.

4 x GCSEs at Grade 4/C or above to include English, Maths and Science is the preferred entry requirements. There may be some flexibility but, as a minimum, applicants must have no less than GCSE Grade 3/D in English and Maths.
